Sonenberg was the executive director of the Long Island Community Foundation for 21 years and has been an independent consultant on organizational development since 2011.

Suzy Sonenberg served as Executive Director of the Long Island Community Foundation (LICF) from 1988 through 2009. After receiving a Master’s Degree in Social Work from Adelphi University in 1976, Ms. Sonenberg spent eight years as a nonprofit administrator and grantseeker before joining the NY Foundation as a grantmaker in 1984.

During her tenure at LICF Ms. Sonenberg was instrumental in founding ERASE Racism, the Women’s Fund of Long Island, Sustainable Long Island and the Long Island Center for Nonprofit Leadership. Since 2011 she has been an independent consultant focused on organizational development.

Ms. Sonenberg now makes her home in Northern NJ and Southern Maine. She serves as board Vice President of the The Maine Initiatives Fund, a progressive foundation focused on social, environmental and economic justice.
