Side by Side

Building nonprofit leaders on Long Island.

Side by Side is an initiative that builds capacity in a specific area of nonprofit management while nurturing a network of nonprofit leaders to achieve even greater social impact on Long Island. Key aspects that distinguish the initiative:

  1. Selected grantees will come together around a critical management area for nonprofit sustainability, build their expertise then plan and apply information specifically to their organizations.
  2. Together, grantees will offer peer support, share lessons learned and brainstorm new ways to do old things.
  3. An expert consultant will guide the organizations through the entire process, facilitating the group learning environment and providing individualized expertise for each organization.

Side by Side is a 10-month engagement with monthly group meetings and monthly individual consulting support. The program’s premise is that change takes time. Together, consultant and participants will set goals and develop work plans around the specific focus area.

This opportunity is available to grantees of the Long Island Unitarian Universalist Fund (LIUUF) at the Long Island Community Foundation (LICF). Side by Side is administered by the Center for Nonprofit Leadership. Grantees do not apply for money. They apply for an opportunity to build capacity in a specific focus area. For the inaugural cohort, five grantees were selected.

Side by Side is funded through the generous support of the Long Island Community Foundation, the Long Island Unitarian Universalist (LIUU) Fund at the Long Island Community Foundation (LICF), and the Allstate Foundation.
